A real shop, running on this
Poppies is an artist cooperative in Ojai, California with 45 consigning artists. It sells in a physical store and online, its artists work scheduled shifts to staff it, and every sale has to be split between the cooperative and the artist who made the piece.
That combination — retail, e-commerce, staff scheduling and consignment accounting — usually means three or four separate subscriptions that do not talk to each other. The portal replaces them with one system: the public storefront customers buy from, the member area artists log into, and the back office that reconciles the register against the books.
It is the reference implementation for the Sigil Cooperative Edition, and it is in daily production use — which is the part that matters, because consignment accounting is unforgiving.
What it runs
Two-way register sync
The in-store Square point-of-sale catalogue and the online store stay in step across 191 items, so a piece sold on the floor stops being purchasable online.
Consignment accounting
Per-artist commission, settlements and payout runs across 45 consigning artists — the calculation the whole cooperative model depends on being right.
Shift scheduling
Artists claim and cover the shifts that staff the shop, replacing a separate scheduling subscription the cooperative used to pay for.
Full storefront
Cart, guest checkout, tiered and express shipping, free local pickup, and correct California sales tax.
Books for the shop itself
An admin profit-and-loss view and a seasonal stock planning tool, so the cooperative can see its own position and not just its artists'.
Financial integrity work
A 2026 audit pass recovered $3,784.28 of silently dropped sales and corrected commission that had been charged on tax-inclusive totals across 3,701 sales.
